My name is Scott Tungay and along with the two gentlemen in the photo above (Vince on the left, Gary in the middle), I had the privilege of coaching the University of Kentucky Men’s Rugby Club from 2016 to 2021.
I am from Natal, South Africa where rugby is the sport we all grew up on and dreamt about.
After High School I attended the Sharks Satellite Academy in Pietermaritzburg under Steve Botha, achieving my SARU/World Rugby Level 2 Coaching accreditation, while playing as a flyhalf/centre in the junior club system.
I met my wife, Kelli while she was on a mission internship in South Africa.
We were married in 2016 and settled in Lexington, Kentucky.
That Fall, Head Coach Gary Anderson welcomed me on board at the UK Rugby Club, as their Attack Coach.
UK made the SCRC playoffs for the first time in 25 years, and then won back to back Championships in 2017 & 2018.
Through much trial, error, and hard work we developed simple and effective principles for a successful College setup.
In 2022 I moved to Knoxville to become the Head Coach of the highly respected University of Tennessee Men’s Rugby Club. The Volunteers won the SCRC Championship and picked up Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, and 6 All Conference Players.
I am passionate about Rugby as a tool for discipleship and rite of passage for young men. May this blog encourage your team as you play Best Possible Rugby.
